The Tropic of fold is a horizontal line in a map that allows it to be folded or unfolded according to the area of the map of desired relevance of the user.
Through repeated use, these tropics wear through to become complete breaks in the map surface.
Where horizontal and vertical lines of Fold intersect, a third phenomenon, which i have called a Fissure Island can occur.
A Fissure Island is a negative space left by the wear and tear of a map in its folded state that revels itself when the map is unfolded.
